How do you get from Prague Airport to the city center, and what does it cost?

By · Published

The cheapest way from Prague Airport (Václav Havel, PRG) to the center is trolleybus 59 to Nádraží Veleslavín, then metro line A, on one 90-minute ticket: 46 CZK (≈ $2.1) in the PID Lítačka app or 50 CZK (≈ $2.3) on paper (2026 fares). It takes about 35 minutes. Line 59 replaced the old bus 119 in 2024. The Airport Express (AE) runs to the main train station for 200 CZK (≈ $9.2), and the airport's official taxi service is Uber.

Trolleybus 59 + metro A: the standard route

Bus 119, the airport bus most guidebooks mention, no longer exists. Since 2024 the route has been run by line 59, Prague's long double-articulated trolleybuses, which stop outside both Terminal 1 (non-Schengen flights) and Terminal 2 (Schengen flights).

• Line 59 runs to Nádraží Veleslavín in about 15 minutes, every few minutes during the day.

• At Nádraží Veleslavín, change to metro A (green line) towards Depo Hostivař. It runs to Malostranská, Staroměstská (Old Town) and Můstek (Wenceslas Square).

• Door to door to the center is about 35 minutes, per PID's own airport page.

Your 90-minute ticket covers the trolleybus, the metro and any tram you take afterwards within the time limit.

Bus 100 is the alternative if your hotel is on metro line B: it runs to Zličín in about 18 minutes, and the whole trip to the center takes about 45 minutes. At night, buses 907 and 910 leave Terminal 2 every 30 minutes, with the trip to the center taking 45 to 50 minutes.

Tickets: PID Lítačka app, machines and prices

Buy the ticket before you board; drivers on regular lines don't sell them. 2026 full fares (ages 15 to 60):

• 90 minutes: 46 CZK (≈ $2.1) in the app, 50 CZK (≈ $2.3) on paper. This is the one for the airport.

• 30 minutes: 36 CZK (≈ $1.7) app, 39 CZK (≈ $1.8) paper. Too short for the airport trip.

• 24 hours: 140 CZK (≈ $6.4) app, 150 CZK (≈ $6.9) paper. 72 hours: 340 CZK (≈ $15.6) app, 350 CZK (≈ $16.1) paper.

• Large luggage: 23 CZK (≈ $1.1) app, 25 CZK (≈ $1.1) paper. Check the PID rules for which bags need one.

The PID Lítačka app is the easiest option: buy the ticket and activate it before boarding, and a foreign card works. Paper tickets come from yellow ticket machines in both arrival halls and at the bus stops (most take contactless cards), or from the Prague public transit counters in the arrival halls. Validate a paper ticket in the stamping machine the first time you board.

Airport Express (AE) to Prague main station

The AE bus goes from Terminal 1 to Praha hlavní nádraží (the main railway station) in about 40 to 45 minutes, depending on traffic. It is worth it if you are catching a train onward, for example a day trip to Kutná Hora, or staying near the station. It has extra room for luggage.

• Fare: 200 CZK (≈ $9.2) per adult, 100 CZK (≈ $4.6) for children aged 6 to 15 (2026 tariff). The price doubled from 100 CZK (≈ $4.6) at the start of 2026.

• Regular PID tickets and passes are not valid on the AE.

• Buy tickets from the driver or online in the Czech Railways (ČD) e-shop.

• At the station, the stop is on Wilsonova street in front of the Fanta Building. Metro line C is downstairs.

For most hotels in the Old Town and Malá Strana, line 59 + metro is cheaper and usually faster, because it avoids road traffic.

Taxis: Uber is the official airport service

Since 2023 the airport's official taxi service has been run by Uber, branded Uber Airport. You can book it three ways:

• In the Uber app, choosing the Uber Airport product.

• At self-service kiosks in the arrival halls (card only).

• At the service counter in each terminal, open 7:00 to 21:00 (card or cash).

The price is fixed when you book, so you know it before you get in. Pickup points are directly in front of the T1 and T2 arrival halls, and you give the driver a six-digit PIN. Regular Uber and Bolt rides also work, with the price shown in the app.

Skip anyone offering a taxi inside the terminal. Traffic at the Aviatická junction near the airport is slow at rush hour because of roadworks, which affects taxis but not the trolleybus.
