Temperate places use meteorological seasons, so Northern Hemisphere spring is March to May and Southern Hemisphere spring is September to November. Tropical places use the seasons local weather services and travel bodies use. Seasons rarely change on the 1st and they shift from year to year, so each month shows the closest fit and the note under a place gives the real dates. The dots mark the months our route had us there.
We use monthly visitor arrivals or overnight stays from statistics offices where we could find them, looking at the regions on each row when the data allows. Some figures are national, or count foreign visitors only, so a quieter area can sit inside a busy row. Places marked as an estimate have no monthly counts we could find, and the months come from travel sources. Crowds also move with holidays, so check the dates in each note.
