Navigating Japanese packaging and cashier customs, however, requires a quick insider playbook.
While each chain stocks everyday travel necessities, each owns distinct cult-favorite specialties:
7-Eleven: Famous for high-density culinary quality, including their rich, fluffy egg salad sandwich (tamago sando), frozen soup dumplings (xiaolongbao), premium seven-cafe drip coffee, and superior salmon belly (harasu) onigiri.
Lawson: Revered for its fried chicken champion—Karaage-kun (tender, bite-sized chicken nuggets in regular, red spicy, and cheese flavors)—and its bakery line, Uchi Café, featuring decadent cream roll cakes (mochi shokkan roll).
