Where should I stay for the BMW Open in Munich in 2027?

By · Published · Last updated

The BMW Open runs from 10 to 18 April 2027 including qualifying, according to the tournament, with the main draw on 12 to 18 April on the ATP calendar. Everything hangs off the U6: stay in Schwabing for the best mix of short ride and evenings out, or Freimann to walk to the courts. The hotel search above opens on the final weekend, Friday 16 to Monday 19 April 2027. We were in Munich from 20 to 25 July 2023. That record shows the city and the dates, so the tournament detail below comes from the organiser.

The tournament: dates and venue

Official dates: 10 to 18 April 2027 including qualifying, from bmwopen.de. The ATP calendar gives the main draw as 12 to 18 April. In 2026 the tournament ran 13 to 19 April.

The BMW Open by Bitpanda is an ATP 500 on clay at MTTC Iphitos, Aumeisterweg 10, at the northern end of the English Garden.

Tickets

The presale was open when we checked. There are day tickets for each day in several categories, and the price rises in steps with demand, so buying early is cheaper. The organiser's page gives no figures, so check bmwopen.de/tickets.

The official resale platform is Clubsale. The organiser warns against Viagogo, StubHub and similar sites.

Getting to MTTC Iphitos

Take the U6 to Studentenstadt. The organiser's page calls it about a 5 minute walk, but the route it describes is 500 metres or more, so allow 5 to 10 minutes. Parking is limited, and the organiser recommends P+R Fröttmaning.

From the airport, take the S-Bahn to Marienplatz, then the U6. That is roughly 60 minutes by our estimate, so check a journey planner. Our Munich airport guide has the details.

Where to stay, ranked by travel time to the club

The ranking is our judgement, based on time to the venue. All four times are our own estimates, so check them in a journey planner.

1. Freimann and Studentenstadt (roughly 5 to 10 minutes). Walkable, with business hotels. The catch: suburban.

2. Schwabing and Münchner Freiheit (roughly 10 to 15 minutes). Bars and the English Garden. The catch: pricier.

3. Maxvorstadt and Universität (roughly 15 to 20 minutes). The museums. The catch: small rooms in the student area.

4. Altstadt and Marienplatz (roughly 20 to 25 minutes, direct on the U6). The first-timer's base. The catch: top rates.

We found no sourced hotel prices for the tournament, so book free cancellation early. Our where to stay in Munich guide compares areas for a normal trip, what to eat in Munich helps with dinner, and day trips from Munich fills spare days.

Day-of logistics

• Times: in 2026 grounds opened at 10:00, play started at 11:00, and the final began at 13:30. The organiser's visitor page mixes 2026 and 2027 dates, so confirm times for 2027.

• Weather: April in Munich can be cold and wet. Pack warm layers and something waterproof.

• Same week as Barcelona: the Barcelona Open has the same dates, so this is a choice between the two.
