The Mutua Madrid Open runs from 19 April to 2 May 2027 at the Caja Mágica, according to the tournament. Legazpi is the closest base, three stops from the venue on Metro Line 3 and the start of the 180 bus. For a first trip to Madrid, stay around Sol, also direct on Line 3. The hotel search above opens on the final weekend, Friday 30 April to Monday 3 May 2027. We were in Madrid from 27 June to 1 July 2022, the first stop of our Spain route. That record shows the city and the dates, so the tournament detail below comes from the organiser and the sources named.
Official dates: 19 April to 2 May 2027, from the tournament's ticket conditions on mutuamadridopen.com. Other listings start later because of qualifying and tour start days: the ATP calendar shows 21 April for the men, and the WTA page shows 20 April to 2 May. They agree on the finish.
It is a combined ATP Masters 1000 and WTA 1000 event on clay, and esMADRID lists it as the 25th edition. The Caja Mágica, at Camino de Perales 23, has three roofed courts. Final times for 2027 are unpublished. In 2026 the men's final was not before 5pm, with the women's doubles final at 2pm that day.

The tournament's conditions say 2027 sales are open online on the official site, with the box office at the Caja Mágica from 5 April 2027. There is a €2 (≈ $2.2) booking fee per ticket. Tickets are per session, day or night, with one ticket per session, and the order of play comes out the night before.
Ticket types are Estadio Manolo Santana, Estadio 2, Sky Seats, Platinum Seats and Entrada Paseo, the grounds ticket. Entrada Paseo is sold at the box office only, during the tournament, and is not guaranteed.
Prices are the weak spot. We could not open the official ticket shop. A search snippet of it for 2027 showed tickets from €15 (≈ $16.7), and season passes from €6,750 (≈ $7,537) for Sky Seats and €7,763 (≈ $8,668) for Platinum. Treat every session price as unverified and check tickets.mutuamadridopen.com. A press guide in elEconomista reported that two-week and first-week Manolo Santana passes had sold out.
• Face check: a photo of your face is taken at the gate and matched to the ticket holder.
• Weather: delays count as force majeure, with no automatic refund.
• Resale: tickets bought outside official channels are not guaranteed.
• Metro Line 3 to San Fermín-Orcasur: about 750 to 800 metres to the entrance, around 10 minutes on foot, per esMADRID.
• EMT 180 from Legazpi: in 2026 it ran as a direct shuttle at weekends from 10:00 every 10 minutes and in the evenings, and from 12:00 to midnight on 1 to 3 May, according to Madrid24horas. The 2027 pattern is unpublished.
• Buses 23, 78 and 123: stop about 300 metres away, per the same source.
• Cercanías C-5 to Orcasitas or Doce de Octubre: about a 20 minute walk, according to OKdiario.
• From the airport: roughly 50 to 60 minutes on Line 8 to Nuevos Ministerios, Line 6 to Legazpi, then Line 3 south. That is our estimate; see our Madrid airport guide.

The ranking is our judgement, based on time to the venue. All four times are our own estimates, so check them in a journey planner for your exact address.
1. Legazpi and Madrid Río (roughly 15 minutes by Line 3 or bus 180). Three Line 3 stops out, and the 180 starts here. You get riverside walks and Matadero nearby. The catch: fewer hotels, and it is quiet at night.
2. Atocha and Delicias (roughly 20 to 25 minutes). High-speed AVE and airport rail links, handy if you are arriving from Barcelona. The catch: you may need a change to Line 3 depending on where you are.
3. Lavapiés and Embajadores (roughly 20 to 25 minutes, direct on Line 3). Good food and usually lower prices. The catch: late-night noise and small rooms.
4. Sol and Gran Vía (roughly 25 to 30 minutes, direct on Line 3). The best base for a first Madrid trip. The catch: the highest prices of the four, especially over the holiday weekend below.
For a normal trip around the tennis, our where to stay in Madrid guide compares neighbourhoods and how many days in Madrid plans the rest. Our what to eat in Madrid list covers dinner.
We found no sourced hotel prices for the 2027 tournament. The calendar matters most: 1 May and 2 May, a Madrid holiday, fall on the final weekend in 2027. We expect that to tighten hotels, but it is our inference from the calendar, so confirm which day the holiday is observed. Book a free-cancellation room early if you want those nights.
April in Madrid can be cool at night and showery, so pack a layer for evening sessions.
