How do you pay the Bali tourist tax and e-VoA, and what is the step-by-step arrival process at Ngurah Rai Airport?

By · Published · Last updated

Arriving at Bali's Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) in Denpasar can be overwhelming after a long flight if you haven't prepared your digital entry paperwork in advance. Between the mandatory Regional Tourist Tax, the Electronic Visa on Arrival (e-VoA), and the All Indonesia arrival declaration, having your QR codes ready lets you breeze past long queues into paradise.

The Bali Regional Tourist Levy (150,000 IDR)

Implemented to fund environmental conservation, waste infrastructure, and Balinese cultural preservation, all foreign tourists entering Bali must pay the Regional Tourist Tax of 150,000 IDR (≈ $8.3) (approx. $10 USD) per person.

While payment counters exist at the airport, paying in advance via the official government portal (Love Bali website or app) is strongly recommended. Once paid online, you receive a digital levy voucher with a QR code to save on your smartphone for scanning upon arrival.

Official e-VoA vs Visa on Arrival counters

Citizens of over 90 countries (including the US, Canada, Australia, UK, and EU) require a 30-day Tourist Visa on Arrival (costing 500,000 IDR (≈ $28) / approx. $32 USD).

You can apply online 48 hours prior to departure via the official Indonesian Immigration portal (evisa.imigrasi.go.id) for an Electronic Visa on Arrival (e-VoA). Travelers holding pre-approved e-VoAs can use the automated electronic e-Gates (Autogates) at Denpasar Airport, bypassing human passport queues entirely in under 60 seconds.

All Indonesia arrival card: the customs and health QR code

The separate Electronic Customs Declaration (e-CD) at ecd.beacukai.go.id and the SATUSEHAT health pass are no longer used for arrivals. Since September 2025 at Bali's airport (and October 2025 at every international airport), travelers fill in one free All Indonesia declaration at allindonesia.imigrasi.go.id or in the All Indonesia app, covering immigration, customs and health in a single form, within 3 days before arrival.

After entering your passport, flight and baggage details, you receive a QR code by email. Take a clear screenshot of it to show on arrival and at the customs exit before stepping outside. Our All Indonesia Arrival Card guide walks through every screen.

Navigating the arrival hall: avoiding taxi touts

Once you exit the baggage claim, you will walk through an intense gauntlet of dozens of aggressive freelance drivers calling out 'Taxi! Boss! Where you go?'. Never negotiate with informal drivers inside the terminal.

Instead, walk straight through the hall to the official air-conditioned Grab Lounge on Level 3 of the international terminal parking structure, or pre-book a private transfer through Klook or Welcome Pickups where a vetted driver holds a personalized name board right outside the gate.

Frequently asked questions

Can I pay the Bali tourist tax in cash at the airport?

No. The levy is cashless. Payment counters at Denpasar Airport take electronic payment only (card or QRIS), and long queues make paying on the official Love Bali website in advance far faster.

Can the 30-day Bali Visa on Arrival be extended?

Yes, the 30-day tourist VoA can be extended once for an additional 30 days (total 60 days) either online via the immigration portal or through a local visa agent in Bali.

Does your passport need 6 months validity to enter Bali?

Yes, Indonesian immigration strictly enforces the rule that your passport must have at least 6 months remaining validity from your arrival date, with at least two blank pages.
