What Should You Expect Arriving at Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali? (Customs QR, e-VOA & Grab Taxis)

By · Published · Last updated

Stepping off an international flight into I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) in Denpasar can feel overwhelming after a long journey. Between automated electronic visa gates, the mandatory All Indonesia arrival declaration, the provincial foreign tourist levy, and a relentless gauntlet of freelance taxi touts outside baggage claim, having an exact step-by-step game plan turns a stressful arrival into a smooth 30-minute exit.

Immigration: automated autogates vs visa cashier desks

If you applied for your electronic Visa on Arrival (e-VOA) online in advance through the official Indonesian immigration portal, do not stop at the bank payment counters. Proceed directly to the rows of automated passport autogates, scan your passport photo page, look into the camera, and walk through in under a minute.

If you did not apply online in advance, you must join the queue at the payment bank counter to purchase a physical Visa on Arrival (500,000 IDR (≈ $28), roughly $32 USD, payable by credit card or major currency cash) before standing in a second line for manual immigration inspection. All Indonesia arrival card (customs QR) and the Bali tourist levy

Indonesia no longer uses the separate Electronic Customs Declaration (e-CD) or SATUSEHAT health pass. Since September 2025 at Bali's airport (and October 2025 nationwide), every international arrival fills in one free All Indonesia declaration at allindonesia.imigrasi.go.id or in the All Indonesia app, covering immigration, customs and health questions together. Submit it within 3 days before you land and you get a QR code by email. Save a screenshot to your camera roll before boarding, as airport Wi-Fi can be congested. Step-by-step help is in our All Indonesia Arrival Card guide.

Bali also charges a foreign tourist levy of IDR 150,000 (roughly $10 USD) per visitor. It is cashless: payment counters at the airport take electronic payment only, so paying online before departure via the official Love Bali website (lovebali.baliprov.go.id) and saving the emailed QR voucher saves significant time in the arrivals concourse. The levy is separate from the All Indonesia declaration.

Navigating the taxi gauntlet to the official Grab Lounge

Exiting customs lands you into a bustling arrivals hall lined with dozens of freelance drivers shouting 'Taxi! Yes boss, where you go?'. Politely decline and walk past them following the overhead green signs directing passengers to the Grab Lounge located inside the domestic and international parking structure.

At the Grab Lounge, staff assist you with booking or verifying your ride in the Grab app at transparent, upfront fixed rates with air-conditioned cars.
