April is one of the two best months to visit South Korea: cool, mostly dry days in Seoul (about 17.9°C (64°F) highs, 8°C (46°F) lows), cherry blossoms in the first week or two, and green hillsides before the June to July rainy season. The trade-offs are crowds under the blossoms, a wetter south coast (Busan averages about 141 mm of rain in April, nearly double Seoul), and spring dust haze on some days. We were in South Korea from 7 June to 9 July 2023, so we did not see April ourselves; the numbers below are Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) 1991 to 2020 normals as published for each city, and the event dates come from the sources named in the text.
• Weather: good for walking. Cool mornings, mild afternoons, a jacket for evenings.
• Blossoms: the main reason to go. Peak is usually late March in the south and the first week or two of April in Seoul, and it moves by up to a week year to year.
• Crowds and prices: busy at the blossom spots on weekends, but nothing like the hotel pressure of Chuseok or the summer beach season. There is no public holiday in April 2027.
• Rain: light but frequent in the south. Busan and Jeju are the wetter bases; Sokcho and Seoul are drier.
• Skip April if: you need guaranteed sunshine for Jeju beaches or want to hike high in Seoraksan, where spring comes late.

All figures are KMA 1991 to 2020 normals as listed for each city. They are averages: individual days swing by 8 to 10°C.
• Seoul: highs 17.9°C (64°F), lows 8°C (46°F), about 73 mm of rain. Cardigan weather by day, jacket after dark.
• Busan: highs 18.2°C (65°F), lows 10.1°C (50°F), about 141 mm of rain, the wettest April of the cities here. Carry a compact umbrella.
• Jeju City: highs 18°C (64°F), lows 10.8°C (51°F), about 90 mm. Wind off the sea makes it feel cooler than the number.
• Sokcho (for Seoraksan): highs 16.5°C (62°F), lows 7.3°C (45°F), about 73 mm. Cold at altitude: the upper trails are colder than the town, so treat Seoraksan as a late-April or May hike.
The sea is far too cold for swimming in April, so build the trip around cities, temples and walks, not beaches.
Korea's blossom front moves north from the south coast, so the same trip can catch peak bloom in two places. The Jinhae Gunhangje near Busan usually runs for about ten days from late March to early April; the 2026 edition ran 27 March to 5 April, and the 2027 dates are not announced yet. Our Jinhae festival guide covers dates and transport from Busan and Seoul.
In Seoul the bloom runs on its own clock. In 2026 forecasts put full bloom around 8 to 12 April, but a Korea Times photo gallery dated 3 April showed Yeouido's festival already in full bloom, so a week of error either way is normal. Yeouido, Namsan and the stone-wall paths around the palaces are the usual spots. Falling petals, not the opening date, are your real deadline: a warm spell or heavy rain can strip the trees within days.
Plan the blossom days for weekday mornings. Yeouido and Jinhae are packed on weekends and the roads into Jinhae jam, which is why the Jinhae guide suggests leaving early.

• Jeju canola flowers: yellow fields from late March into April. The Seogwipo Canola Flower Festival ran 4 and 5 April in 2026; 2027 dates are not confirmed, so check before you build a day around it. We spent 4 days in Seogwipo and 2 in Jeju City in June 2023; see how many days in Jeju and our Jeju highlights route.
• Temples before Buddha's Birthday: Buddha's Birthday falls on 13 May 2027 (the eighth day of the fourth lunar month), so April is a quiet month to see temples before the lantern crowds. Dress rules are in our temple dress code guide.
• Public holidays: none in April 2027. The next are Children's Day on 5 May and Buddha's Birthday on 13 May, and the last long holiday, Seollal, was 6 to 9 February 2027.
• Spring dust: Asian dust and fine-particle haze mostly arrive in spring. On bad days, swap an outdoor day for a museum or market. Check the AirKorea air-quality readings the morning of your plan.
For a first trip, split about 5 days in Seoul with 3 to 4 in Busan. We spent 10 days in Seoul across two stays in June and July 2023, and 4 in Busan; our 3 days in Seoul and 4 days in Busan guides lay out the days. The Seoul to Busan KTX guide covers the train.
Add Gyeongju for a cherry-lined temple day from Busan (we spent 3 days there at the end of June 2023; see the Gyeongju day trip guide) and Jeonju for hanok streets. Seoraksan from Sokcho is better in May, but the coast and the fish market work in April: our Sokcho guide explains the buses.
Public transport runs on a tap card; the choice is in our Climate Card vs T-money guide.

April is a high-demand month for Seoul hotels near the blossom spots and for Jinhae-area rooms. Book Busan and Seoul beds as soon as you know your dates, and book Jinhae transport the week the festival dates are announced. Budget numbers by trip length are in our Korea trip cost guide.
Check entry rules before you fly. Many nationalities need the K-ETA, which is covered in our K-ETA 2027 guide, and everyone fills in an arrival card (how to fill out the Korea e-arrival card).
Layers: a t-shirt, a light sweater and a thin windproof or rain jacket cover Seoul days. Add a compact umbrella for Busan and Jeju, walking shoes that cope with wet blossom paths, and a mask if dust bothers you. Our South Korea packing list and what to wear in South Korea have the full list. If October fits your dates better, read South Korea in October.
Yes, it is one of the best months. Seoul averages about 18°C (64°F) by day and 8°C (46°F) at night, cherry blossoms peak from late March to the first week or two of April, and the summer rains are still two months away.
Usually the first week or two of April, a week or so after the south coast. The timing moves by up to a week each year, and the Jinhae festival near Busan typically runs from late March to early April.
Less than in summer, but the south is wetter. KMA normals give about 73 mm in Seoul, 90 mm in Jeju City and 141 mm in Busan.
The lower trails and Sokcho coast are fine, but Sokcho has lows around 7°C (45°F) and the upper slopes are colder. May is a safer hiking month.
No. Children's Day is 5 May and Buddha's Birthday is 13 May 2027, so April has no national holiday.
